Mexican Train Dominoes Rules

Game Objective

The objective of Mexican Train Dominoes is to be the first player to play all dominoes from your hand, or to have the lowest total of dots when no more plays are possible.

Setup

The game uses a double-12 set of dominoes (91 tiles). Each player is dealt 15 dominoes to start. The game begins with the double-12 tile in the center.

Gameplay

  • Each player has their own personal train that extends from the center hub.
  • There is also a "Mexican Train" that anyone can play on.
  • On your turn, you must play a matching domino on any available train.
  • If you cannot play, you must draw a tile from the boneyard. If you still cannot play, your train becomes "open" and other players can play on it.
  • When a double is played, the player must play another tile. If they cannot, they must draw.
  • The game continues until one player has played all their dominoes or until no more plays are possible.

Trains

  • Personal Trains: Each player has their own train. Only the owner can play on it unless it's marked as "open".
  • Mexican Train: Anyone can play on the Mexican Train at any time.
  • Open Trains: If a player cannot play on their turn, their train becomes "open" and other players can play on it.

Scoring

When a player goes out (plays all their dominoes), the round ends. All other players count the dots on their remaining dominoes. The player with the lowest score after an agreed number of rounds wins.
